Amdalah Africa Foundation – AMDAF

Established in 2019, the Amdalah Africa Foundation – AMDAF is a registered charity in Ireland dedicated to promoting social inclusion, integration, recognition, justice, and support for migrant women and their families. As a company limited by guarantee without capital share, AMDAF operates with a commitment to fostering an equitable society where migrant women can thrive.

We adopt Goal 5 of the Sustainable Development Goals, by promoting all actions to eliminate root causes of discriminations against women of African descent in public and private spheres – to achieve gender equality and empower them.

At AMDAF, the term ‘Migrant Women’ encompasses a broad spectrum of individuals, including recent immigrants, asylum seekers, and refugees. It also includes migrant workers, students, trafficked women, and undocumented women. Additionally, it refers to those who have acquired Irish citizenship but still feel outside the mainstream society due to their linguistic, racial, or cultural backgrounds. These women continue to identify as Migrants, reflecting their ongoing journey towards full integration and acceptance within Irish society

How it all started

It all began with a wish in 2018. While promoting her third book, *Wedding Anniversary – Love Doesn’t Have to Hurt*, in 2017, Islammiyah Saudique-Kadejo started a live chat on Facebook.

The discussion centered on domestic abuse—a theme at the heart of her book. During this chat, many women reached out, sharing their personal stories and seeking support.

Moved by their trust and the need for a supportive space, Islammiyah envisioned creating a sanctuary where women could connect and find solace.

In 2019, she hosted a transformative dinner event in Dublin, providing a safe environment where women could discuss domestic abuse and other challenges openly. This event allowed them to cry, laugh, eat, dance, make new friends, and feel uplifted. The success of the Dublin event led to requests for similar gatherings in Galway and beyond. Recognising the potential of a support group for marginalized women of African descent and their families, Islammiyah’s vision began to take shape.

Inspired by this vision, she eagerly wrote down her ideas, driven by a desire to break barriers and amplify women’s voices. The realisation of this dream required collaboration and support. With the support of her friends, Khadijah Wan, Mariam Muritala, Ayodele Yusuf, Jelilat Akinsola, Alimot Adebayo and the unwavering trust of her family, AMDAF was registered as a company limited by guarantee (CLG) on July 4th, 2019.

Despite the onset of COVID-19, AMDAF’s mission persevered. Thanks to the dedication and resilience of its supporters, AMDAF became a Charity on August 19th, 2020. From that moment, there was no stopping the movement – a global mission is in motion!

In 2021, AMDAF broadened its impact by launching GOCOM Radio, Ireland’s first multilingual online community radio, and in 2023, it welcomed an affiliate organisation, Migrant Collective Galway (MCG). In 2024, the AMDAF team decided to expand its vision further to include support for all migrant women and their families, beyond just those of African descent. Each of these milestones marked a significant advancement in AMDAF’s journey, underscoring its unwavering commitment to empowering and supporting migrant women and their families.

From a heartfelt wish to a powerful global initiative, AMDAF’s story is a testament to community strength, the importance of giving voice to the voiceless, and an enduring commitment to social justice and inclusion.
